Empower
Your Presence to Empower
Your Message
Several years
ago there was
a TV
commercial
that took
place in a
corporate
conference
room.
One of the
team offers up
an idea – and
nothing
happens – the
conversation
continues as
if nothing was
said. A
few minutes
later, someone
else says
exactly the
same thing and
the group
instantly
rallies around
the idea and
congratulates
the “leader”
for his or her
insight.
“Wait a
minute,” says
the first
speaker, “I
said that
first.”
The camera
shifts to the
other speaker
who says, “No,
you didn’t say
the same
thing. I
said (and he
gestures with
his hand held
vertically
like a sword
moving
downward).”
Even the
creators of
commercials
recognize that
your message
is empowered
by your
presence,
which is
empowered by
the mind-set
from which you
speak.
I’d like to
use an example
from physics
to flesh out
this
idea. As
an electric
current passes
through a
wire,
spontaneously
a magnetic
field is
produced.
And vice
versa, if you
place a wire
within a
magnetic
field,
spontaneously
an electric
current begins
to flow.
What if
mind-set is to
presence as an
electric
current is to
a magnetic
field?
Your mind-set
spontaneously
generates a
field of
presence.
And when you
encounter a
field of
presence, your
mind-set is
influenced.
Let’s take a
deeper look at
“mind-set”
that takes
into account
not only the
English
dictionary
definition but
also the
non-verbal
dimension of
visual
thinking.
I call this
exploration,
the anatomy of
mind-set.
Let’s begin
with the
familiar.
Supporting
your mind-set
is your state
of mind.
To convey
this, you see
the flow of
movement
through your
spine and
brain.
Continuing
with the
familiar.
Supporting
your mind-set
are your
feelings.
To convey
this, you see
the flow of
life’s
movement
moving through
you.
Mind-set is
also defined
as your
carriage.
That is, how
you hold
yourself as
you move
through space
and
life.
This dimension
includes what
we usually
call posture
along with the
more dynamic
concepts of
stance and
gesture.
Mind-set also
includes the
dynamic factor
of
disposition,
a.k.a.,
inclination,
tendency or
readiness to
respond in a
particular
way. In
other words,
if you are
ready to
respond to
situations by
moving forward
to meet them,
this
influences the
other
dimensions of
your mind-set
and therefore
your presence
– as perceived
by others.
Adding the
non-verbal
dimension of
visual
thinking to
these ideas,
we have the
Five Rings
Model of
Mind-Set.

THE PRESENCE MENU
|
With
simple shifts to any of the
four key mind-set factors,
you can change how other
people perceive you --
rapidly, effectively and
genuinely.
We all know that a picture
is worth one thousands
words. What if a
movement is worth one
thousand pictures?
In the Five Rings menu below
we list four presence
qualities of each of the
non-verbal categories.
There are many other words
that we could use THAT ARE
ALL supported by the same
energetic state. So if
the presence quality you
seek is related to the words
below, then this is a good
place to begin your personal
retooling.

Any time
you set into
motion the forces
of change, the
defense forces of
your habits are
also
activated.
If the resistance
to becoming who
you want to be
seems too strong,
then use
this simple and
basic practice:
noticing,
touching,
accepting and
releasing.
It might
help to relax
the subtle
tensions of mind
and heart that
seem to lock you
into an
undesired state. |
